SUMMARY:Open Dialogue - 5 day workshop
DESCRIPTION:Open Dialogue is both a philosophical/theoretical to people experiencing mental health crisis and system of care developed in Western Lapland over the last 20 years. It emphasises a dialogue with not only the person in crisis\, but also with and between that person’s social network. In the 1980s there was a shift to a “nothing about us without us” attitude whereby everything is discussed openly and decided together in network meetings. Research into the approach has showed impressive results including marked reductions in the use of psychotropic medication\, hospitalisations and long term disability. \nThis 5 day workshop aims to familiarise participants with the key elements and to deepen the understanding of those already familiar with the approach through a mix of theory and experiential learning.

SUMMARY:Psychosis & Spiritual Awakening Town Hall Meeting (CRAZYWISE\, the film)
DESCRIPTION:What many would call a spiritual/personal awakening can sometimes express itself as an intense episode filled with delusions\, hallucinations and other unusual experiences – something the DSM would label as psychosis. An emerging body of work on “Spiritual Emergence/Emergency” by Emma Bragdon and others examines this experience through a spiritually-informed lens. The latest contribution in this area is the feature-length film\, CRAZYWISE\, from film maker Phil Borges\, coming soon in 2017.\n–\n\n-\nCRAZYWISE follows two young Americans  with mental health diagnosis. Adam\, 27\, suffers devastating side effects from medications before embracing meditation in hopes of recovery. Ekhaya\, 32\, survives childhood molestation and several suicide attempts before spiritual training to become a traditional South African healer gives her suffering meaning and brings a deeper purpose to her life. CRAZYWISE adds a voice to the growing conversation that believes a psychological crisis can be an opportunity for growth and potentially transformational\, not a disease with no cure.\n\nThe CRAZYWISE team is hosting an on-line town-hall meeting on March 22\, 2017 at 11:00 Pacific entitled\, “Rethinking Madness: Psychosis and Spiritual Awakening”\n\nYou can register here for this free event.

SUMMARY:Natural Treatments for ADHD - Emotional Regulation and Learning with Breath-Body-Mind
DESCRIPTION:For educators without prior yoga training\, health-care professionals\, and yoga teachers. \nAre you looking to make a difference in the lives of children with ADHD? Take home a toolkit of proven practices to create a compassionate environment and relieve behavioral\, social\, and emotional disorders for children\, including at-risk youth. Interweaving experiential and didactic sessions\, this program is for everyone seeking to improve well-being for youth in K–12\, military families and hospitalized children\, and disaster survivors. \nADHD is not just a disorder of attention and hyperactivity. It also involves social interactions\, bodily awareness\, anxiety\, reward systems and numerous co-occurring learning disabilities. Recent research is shedding light on the role of polymorphisms (genetic variants) that help explain some of the variability in medication responsiveness and nutritional sensitivities. Brain studies showing differences in activation of neural networks are being used to improve the effectiveness of neurofeedback. Dr. Brown will review some of this important research and discuss the use of evidence-based herbs\, nutrients\, mind-body approaches\, neurofeedback and mild brain stimulation treatments.
